I agree with all of you. Just remember that following the pattern isn't always the way to success. See facebook for example - something new but the most popular social network now.

Being consistent will take you a long way. People like to come back to what they like. That's why most tv shows go back to the status quo at the end of every episode and book series usualy follow the same patterns - people like to know what to expect.

Great Post! I agree many things I saw at Disney could be applied to websites to make then more fun for starters.. I was very impressed with a tour they gave called behind the seeds. It was educational and fun. At one point they showed the TickleMe Plant. The TickleMe Plant is the REAL plant that MOVES when you Tickle It! The leaves close and even the branches droop when Tickled!
It showed my kids that even as great as Disney is. They realize that its hard to compete with nature. Who knew a plant could be so interactive and animated. We couldnt find one to grow at the gift shop but I found it on line at Http://www.ticklemeplant.com It even produces pretty cotton candy like pink flowers!

I've got 4 words for creating succesful website: quality content posted consistently. That's it. Seems so simple yet barely anyone is able to achieve it. Many people would rather spend 80% of time promoting the site then sit down and create better content that could attract a lot more readers.

I'm a BIG fan of Disney also. Did you see you can create your own Toon at Toonificator? http://www.mickeymagicalyear.com/uk

Nice post relating to Disney World.

Consistancy is key. People have certain expectations, and if you don't meet that, then they will get uninterested and leave. This combined with the little details that keep people returning are imperitive. After all, it's the little things in life that keep us happy. :)
